The Flexible Wind Ensemble arrangements have 11 pitched parts, a drum kit part and an optional other percussion such as Glockenspiel. They have been scored so that they can be played by both a woodwind ensemble and a brass ensemble. They can also be played by mixed brass and woodwind ensembles.

The mapping of parts is shown by the colour scheme and can also be illustrated by moving the mouse over the parts. For instance rather than Soprano Saxes these parts are well suited to be played by cornets/trumpets. The 2nd flute part can be played on Oboe. Bass clef and treble clef lower parts allow more flexibility although under most circumstances only one player is needed on the bass part. Baritones can play the euphonium and/or trombone parts. In all of these arrangements the second parts are less demanding in terms of range and rhythm than the first parts. In some cases there are small differences in the corresponding parts to accomodate instrument range limitations. Please refer to the full scores (which can be browsed free of charge) to ensure that your ensemble will produce a balanced quality sound.
